Operation Theaters

The Operation Theater complex comprises of four major with a separate designated area for smooth post operative recovery of patients. They function round the clock under the competent team of highly qualified and experienced anesthesiologists assisted by specially trained male & female OT technicians. The Operation Theaters at Holy Cross Hospital are well equipped with the latest anesthetic machines, defibrillators, multi-parameter monitors, infusion pumps & emergency drugs carts. Almost every minor, major and advanced procedure in General Surgery, Obstetrics and gynecology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Laparoscopic surgeries and Pediatric surgery are being preformed by a panel of dedicated, qualified and experienced surgeons. The OT is manned by nursing staffs that are known for their efficiency and dedication to patient care.

Since 1969 we have performed 49,383 major and 54,949 minor surgeries. 3000 major and 4100 minor surgeries handled per year. The department of general surgery is one of the specialty departments in Holy Cross Hospital . This department has 6 bedded postoperative recovery room, 8 bedded surgical ICU and 40 inpatient beds have been reserved exclusively for the department.

  • Outdoor registration is to be done from registration counter, OPD ground floor. After this, you should get yourself registered at the counter for respective OPDs.
  • Patients are seen on first come first serve basis. However, out of turn consultation may be provided in case of emergency or to senior citizens.
  • In OPD, clinical consultation is provided to patients which includes history taking, clinical examination, diagnosis and providing prescription to patients besides advising laboratory and other diagonostic tests in some cases.
  • Hospitalization is advised according to the condition of the patient.

In-Patient Services

Ward facilities for observation and management of medical, surgical ,obstetrical & gynecologic and orthopaedic problem. There are Eight wards, Three ICU’s, one NICU, 6 bedded recovery room and a well equipped casualty.

Nursing Services

At Holy Cross Hospital, Ambikapur the Department of Nursing Service is one of the largest departments of the institution that employs over 238 nursing personnel and 56 Nursing Assistants. It comprises of the Inpatient & Out Patient Units, Operating Rooms, Critical Care Units and Peripheral units of the Hospital. Department of Nursing Service has set a high priority on the development of nursing staff, patient care, patient education, nursing management and administration.

Nursing Heritage

The Department of Nursing Service has a rich heritage with integration of Nursing Education and Nursing Practice. The Department has grown from serving a 50 bedded hospital to a 300 bedded Multi speciality hospital over the last 45 years. The strength of the department has been its integration of nursing service with the mission of compassion, commitment, and dedication to maintaining high quality of patient care in addition to exploring new possibilities to keep pace with changing trends in health care. Nursing Service is the back bone of the institution which supports and provides comprehensive patient care at the primary, secondary, and tertiary care level within the hospital.

Nurses Recruitment

Nursing Council registered Degree and Diploma nurses form part of the Nursing Service. Every year about 50 Graduate Nurses from Holy College of nursing and other Colleges of the State join the Nursing Service and gain experience.

Staff Development

Regular In-Service Education with compulsory attendance is imparted. Participations in both internal and external workshops and seminars are also facilitated for staff Nurses.

Holy Cross Hospital Laboratory is a 24 Χ7 facility providing services for Patients admitted in Hospital and walk- in patients.

Specialties of Lab

The department has carried out 5,26,468 tests in the year 2022.

Over 90% of diagnostic and treatment decisions are made by doctors are based on medical laboratory test results. Without the work of laboratory professionals, physicians would not be able to confirm their diagnosis. Lab results can give the exact diagnosis or can point toward a possible cause which may be confirmed by further testing. Be it a case of diabetes or malignancy or infection or a case of cardiac disease it is impossible to proceed with the treatment without laboratory investigations. In short, treating a patient without lab support is like sailing an uncharted sea.

Microbiology : All routine stains and cultures and sensitivity, AFB and fungal cultures done. Serological tests: Lepto, Dengue, Elisa, Widal, RA, VDRL, Paulbunnel.

Histopathology: Examines and reports on an annual turnover of over 3000 surgical specimens including referrals from other hospitals and medical centres. Foetal pathology, Nephropathology, Hematopathology, Automated tissue processing and tissue tech-1 embedding system, Fluid cytology and FNAC.

Intensive Care Unit

Holy cross hospital Ambikapur is furnished with well equipped ICU. Which includes 30 bedded Medical ICU were medical emergencies are taken care like, cardiac, CVA, hypertensive emergencies, snake bite, Respiratory diseases, poisoning, cerebral malaria, meningitis, CKD and other. And 8 bedded Surgical ICU where, head injury, trauma, perforated peritonitis and other critically ill surgical patients are treated, and 8 bedded paediatric ICU were critically ill Peadiatric childrens are efficiently cared.

ICU has well trained and skilful nurses and doctors who provide comprehensive, holistic and emergency care to the critically ill patients. Patients admitted to ICU get quality care in a calm and compassionate environment. where patient’s physical, mental and spiritual aspect is also considered.

ICU is well equipped with high tech equipments like ventilators, defibrillators, ECG machine, Cardiac monitor, Infusion pump, syringe pump, suction apparatus and all emergency medications in crash cart.

Neonatal & Paediatric ICU

NICU: Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is an intensive care unit specializing in the care of ill or premature newborn infants. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Holy Cross Hospital, Ambikapur is the first unit to be established in the state of Surguja district. It is recognized as a tertiary referral centre for high risk pregnancy and for preterm care. It is a bedded unit catering to both inborn and out born babies. The unit is well equipped with ventilators, multichannel monitors, Phototherapy, pulse oximeters, infusion pumps, T piece resuscitators. The NICU has separate section as inborn, outborn and septic Unit. The goal of the unit has not only been survival but intact and optimal survival of the extreme preterm babies.

PICU: The paediatric Intensive Care Unit is manned 24 hrs by skillful and specially trained staff. It is well equipped to look after all childhood emergencies.

CT Scan

CT stands for Computed Tomography. It is also known as a CAT (Computer Axial Tomography) scan. It is a medical imaging method that employs tomography. Tomography is the process of generating a two-dimensional image of a slice or section through a 3-dimensional object (a tomogram). The CT scanner uses digital geometry processing to generate a 3-dimensional (3-D) image of the inside of an object. The 3-D image is made after many 2-dimensional (2-D) X-ray images are taken around a single axis of rotation – in other words, many pictures of the same area are taken from many angles and then placed together to produce a 3-D image.

Looking at the increasing number of patients with head trauma CT scan facility was started in 2013, later in 2022 updated with advance CT scan machine, which helps in the immediate diagnosis of the patient’s with Cerebral bleed, Atrophy and infarct. This has helped up to provide appropriate treatment.

Dialysis Unit

Holy Cross Hospital has a well-equipped, haemodialysis unit with 15 machines providing 24X7 services.

In the year 2004 a dialysis Unit was added to serve the patients suffering from renal failure. Modern technology based Fresinius machines are used. There is a separate machine for HbsAg infected patients. The number of dialysis per year has grown from 553 dialysis a year to 12,000 per year. The unit is looked after by medicine department with skillful nursing staff and dialysis technicians, they are efficient in managing any emergency condition during dialysis.

Round the clock availability of efficient technicians, nursing staffs and RMOs along with careful supervision of senior & junior Doctors makes this department one of the well managed unit in Holy Cross Hospital.

Endoscopy

An endoscopy involves examining the inside of a person’s body using an endoscope. An endoscope is a medical device consisting of a long, thin, flexible (or rigid) tube which has a light and a video camera. Images of the inside of the patient’s body is seen on a screen. The whole endoscopy is recorded so that doctors can check it again. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic medical procedure. we are using it to examine the interior surfaces of an organ or tissue. Since 2001 we are providing the diagnostic facility of Gastroscopy and colonoscopy. We are using endoscopy for enabling biopsies and retrieving foreign objects.

Dietetics & Nutrition

The Department is staffed with efficient and dedicated dietician in the areas of clinical nutrition, nutritional assessment, nutrition education, nutrition counselling, and management of many nutrition-related diseases and problems. The Nutrition and Dietetics Department at HCH plays a pivotal role in making sure that nutritional care is an integral component of patient care and offers the following services.

  • Individualized diet prescriptions and advice to patients.
  • Critical Care– providing special nutritional care.
  • Tube feeds-Ryles tube, Nasojejunal tube and PEG feeds. It is ensured that each patient’s food requirement is fulfilled completely with necessary calories, protein, fat, fibre and suitable nutrients in the feed formulation.
  • Diet counselling for clients coming for Diabetic Health Check-up.
  • Ante-natal nutritional counselling for gestational diabetes.
  • Community nutrition programme, talks on food and health, awareness sessions on nutrition.

Canteen

Patients and attendants can avail the facility of hospital canteen which is situated in the hospital campus. canteen is open from 5am to 9pm.

Food is served for patients in a subsidised rate and for patients availing AB-PMJAY scheme are given free food.
