God's plan for our Healing and Wellbeing

Jesus came that we may have life, life to its fulness. John 10:10

Jesus came into the world to give the fullness of life to the humanity. Life is God’s gift and its preservation depends on him. The motto will be a constant reminder to us that we are God’s collaborators in the care of human lives and are wholly dependent upon him for the fruits of our labours. He helps us in being and he is the purpose of our life. This shows us the sacredness of our life.

The man lying down with the right hand lifted up symbolizes his aspiration towards wholeness. Christ raised men from their sick beds and restored them to health. The emblem portrays a person lying with sickness, being helped to rise and given renewed life by Christ, who is signified by the cross, on which he died and this is the greatest sign of love known to us.

God’s power uses human intelligence, skill and knowledge for the relief of physical & mental illness. As sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, with compassion love and untiring energy, we seek to alleviate all manner of suffering. we render compassionate and holistic care to the sick and less privileged through our health service.

Success Stories

In response to the call of our lord Jesus Christ and the vision of our founders, we the sisters of mercy of the Holy Cross initiated the Ministry of Healing through a small dispensary in Ambikapur in the year 1964.

The medical apostolate of Holy Cross Sisters was flourishing in Holy Cross Hospital at Kunkuri of Raigarh District. Bishop Stanislaus Tigga, Bishop of Raigarh – Ambikapur Diocese saw how effectively the educational and medical Apostolate was progressing in Raigarh Dist. , he dreamed of the same development in Ambikapur, the head quarter of Surguja Dist. In 1964, sisters Geroldina – Nurse, Micheal Ekka and Carmela Tirkey arrived at Ambikapur as pioneers, to begin the Holy Cross Mission in Surguja, Ambikapur. The dispensary was opened in 1964 and it was crowded with the patients. The increasing need prompted the sisters to build a hospital in 1967. The lack of health care and the growing mortality rate urged the sisters to plan for a bigger and more spacious hospital. The patients were shifted to the new hospital and started functioning on 19th December 1976. The building was completed and officially inaugurated on 8th January 1978. Sr. Dr. Beatrice, Sr. Magna Maria, Sr. Janette, and Sr Leonie were the pioneers.

Understanding Suffering & Pain

  • Suffering is a universal mystery at once terrible and familiar.
  • Suffering seems to be particularly essential to human nature.
  • “Without suffering human life cannot be complete.” Viktor Frankline.
When we invest suffering with meaning, they draw profit from it. If we resolutely refuse to be defeated by it and instead give it a beneficial and noble meaning in our lives, find ways to cope with it by developing authentic values, perspectives, and attitudes.
  • It’s precisely through suffering that Christ displayed his solidarity with humanity, and that in turn we can grow in solidarity with Christ, who is our life.
  • The whole weight of the tribulations and pains of mankind is epitomised in the mystery of Jesus who in taking on our human nature, humbled himself.
  • Suffering offers opportunities for personal growth, and for demonstrating concrete love for other.
  • We respect people & tradition of other faiths, cultures, civil societies.
